When I started a travel blog in the carefree, jet

When I started a travel blog in the carefree, jet set days of 2010, I never imagined the most popular posts would be on topics like online classes for toddlers, how to build an electric fireplace and a review of a peloton. (2010 me is very thrown by this random collection of topics!)

But here we are, deep in lockdown 3.0, doing all we can to get through the days and keep our heads up. Parenting hacks, decorating the house and working out on a fancy piece of equipment is what’s helping me, and it brings me some comfort to see these topics resonate with readers.

For the news in the UK right now is devastating. Our numbers (because they aren’t just numbers are they? They’re somebodies loved ones, people with a story) are heartbreaking. I know it doesn’t help to dwell on these things but I felt it needed acknowledging.

So, I truly hope you are all staying safe and as sane as can be. And thank you for reading about some of the distractions I’ve written of lately. If these blog posts help just one person have a better day, in some shape or form, it will have been worth it.

[AD] Hotels.com asked me to share some of my travel plans (well, hopes really) for 2021 & it's been lovely to spend the morning looking forward to things we might do post-pandemic.

I don't know about you but I don't imagine going on any grand adventures or booking bucket list trips, I just dream of spending some quality time with friends and family, ideally in the sun with a cold beer in hand!

So I’ve popped on the blog some of the travel tabs I've currently got open in the hopes that travel is on the cards again in 2021. Are there any trips you've started planning for this year? Are your travel dreams bigger or smaller since Covid?

Doing the nursery run gives me major imposter synd

Doing the nursery run gives me major imposter syndrome. I honestly do the drive thinking someone is surely going to pull me over and say I’m too young and foolish to drive a car with a child in. Never mind that the child is mine and I’m not exactly a spring chicken at 36 🤣 There’s just something so adult and parent-y about doing the nursery drop off that makes me feel like I’m pretending. Maybe it’s because I’m new to driving (I got my license last year) and newish to parenting (still a novice at 2 years in 😂) that makes this a surreal combo for me. Anyone else get imposter syndrome on a daily basis just doing regular adult things?! #mumlife #toddlerlife #toddlermum #mummydiaries

I can’t believe my little baby is 2 years old! A

I can’t believe my little baby is 2 years old! And what a strange year the last one has been. (To say the least.) I look back on Miles’ first birthday with wonder and awe, as it’s the last time we were in the same room as many of our friends and family. (Certainly the last time we were all in one at the same time!) Oh how we took those carefree gatherings for granted. But while the last year took so much away, it gave me so much precious time with my boy. Sure the days were long and I instantly regretted introducing Miles to YouTube, but I also laughed a lot for someone who had no adult interaction for most of the day. This little man has grown into a chatty, cheerful boy who loves diggers and dancing and soaks up songs like sponge. We’ve puzzled and painted, Irish danced and bear hunted, learned numbers, colours, names and a few rude words. (Ooops. He’s a parrot, who hears everything, even if you mutter under your breath 🤭) I pray he gets to spend more precious time with people other than Justin and I this year, but I feel so lucky to have had his company in 2019. (Apart from when he went through that phrase of running away. Today I’ve found myself watching Jane McDonald cruising Greece, while reading the latest Victoria Hislop book set in Greece, and thought, stuff it, I’m going to make my last picture of 2020 one of Greece.

While I’m still feeling too cautious to book any overseas trips in 2021 yet, it doesn’t mean I’m not ready to dream about them. 2020 was a rotter, with a craziness that went on for far longer than most of us ever imagined. The numbers in the uk right now are terrifying but there is hope in the shape of a vaccine.

So, rather than look back today, I’m starting to look forward. I’m thinking about all the everyday joys we previously took for granted, like family gatherings and beach holidays, and how much we are going to relish them in the year ahead.

I’m looking forward to that frisson of excitement that comes when you first flutter open your eyelids and realise you’re not in your own bed anymore. I can’t wait to wake with a start, remembering we’re in a minimalist apartment in Chelsea, NYC or a blue-shuttered studio near the beach in Greece. I can’t wait for the slow dawning of realisation than today is not another day of no plans, but one filled with activities that allow us to immerse ourselves in a new culture, cuisine, or just the warm ocean.

So happy new year folks. There are some amazing things ahead of us.

Just sitting here pondering how we’ve all massiv

Just sitting here pondering how we’ve all massively upped our loungewear game in 2020. (Sales were up a casual 1303% this year 😳)

I’m at the point now where mine can be separated into categories. Obviously, there’s the day loungewear and night loungewear, which is just like the former but with less layers or fleece lining. Then there’s the isolation loungewear (that’s the items on their last threads after being worn all year) and tier 4 loungewear, which are just clothes that are faring slightly better. Then there’s tier 3 and below loungewear. These are items that can more respectfully take you from sofa to social distanced walks with a non-household member - so basically leggings without holes in. There’s work loungewear, which is just anything that isn’t stained really, and the ‘I needed cheering up loungewear’, which is a little bit fancier - perhaps a designer tracksuit or something from M&S with a ‘touch of cashmere’. Then there’s the loungewear which isn’t loungewear at all but is just something you wear in your lounge all day - you know, a tea-stained throw and pongy slippers. 🤣 Not just me is it?!

I think that sums up my wardrobe at the minute. What category of loungewear are you living in?
