*Simple travel joys that are ahead.*

Spontaneous days out, a sandwich you didn’t make. Waking up, drawing back the curtains and seeing anywhere that isn’t your street. A sprawling breakfast buffet, someone else making the bed. Ordering in another language - or at least trying too - and hearing those you don’t understand at the next table. The first shocking plunge in the pool. Someone smoking on their sunlounger. Salt and sand encrusted skin. Long, indulgent lunches saying ‘oh go on then’ to everything. A glass of wine on the balcony while the little ones sleep. Gathering an arm full of magazines and books at the airport that you may or may not read. The cheeky bag of Haribo you’ve been buying for every flight since you were 8. Packing. (Never thought we’d miss that did we?) Piles of washing that smell like sunscreen. Blisters between your toes as you break your new strappy sandals in. Souvenirs that only look tacky once you get home. Having an itinerary but skipping half of it because you’re on holiday. Checking in to poolside drinks on FB. Saying ‘I can’t believe it’s time to go home already’ after what feels like the briefest of weeks. Is there anything I’ve missed?

Can I share with you a small win? Yesterday I did

Can I share with you a small win? Yesterday I did my monthly stat report for my blog and realised the page views were up 10% in Jan 2021 compared to Jan 2020. While this wouldn’t be a great growth rate for a normal year, the reality is I lost about 90% of page views overnight when the pandemic hit in March and I spent most of the last year trying to claw them back in various different ways.

This small achievement has made me reframe the last year of work in my head. It wasn’t a complete waste of time to keep plugging away while the world was upside down.

Hopefully all the travel posts I updated will be useful again soon and I’ve had fun writing about more diverse topics the last few months too.

I guess, if you just look at these numbers, I’m technically in a better position than I was this time last year. That’s the part I’m going to focus on anyway 🤣

I hope you can find some small wins from the last few months, in whatever shape they come.

I’ve had a little flurry of new followers thanks

I’ve had a little flurry of new followers thanks to mentions from my friends @xameliax and @thetravelhack so thought I’d check in and say hi. I’ve been a bit unsure about what to post on here (for months now really) as it’s predominantly a travel page and it’s been 6 months now since we left the county. This picture was taken on a perfect day in Cornwall last summer. Of course, Covid was around then so there were compromises and precautions we had to take on that trip that we’d never considered or imagined before. But I don’t remember the masks and social distancing as much as I remember the sun on my skin, empty stretches of beach and the joy on the toddler’s face as he ran through the surf for the first time. I expect travel will be different for quite some time but I hope we can have experiences like this again soon, as the joy of those simple things are certainly not dimmed by the differences. Where are you hoping to visit this summer?

[AD] Hotels.com asked me to share some of my travel plans (well, hopes really) for 2021 & it's been lovely to spend the morning looking forward to things we might do post-pandemic.

I don't know about you but I don't imagine going on any grand adventures or booking bucket list trips, I just dream of spending some quality time with friends and family, ideally in the sun with a cold beer in hand!

So I’ve popped on the blog some of the travel tabs I've currently got open in the hopes that travel is on the cards again in 2021. Are there any trips you've started planning for this year? Are your travel dreams bigger or smaller since Covid?

Doing the nursery run gives me major imposter synd

Doing the nursery run gives me major imposter syndrome. I honestly do the drive thinking someone is surely going to pull me over and say I’m too young and foolish to drive a car with a child in. Never mind that the child is mine and I’m not exactly a spring chicken at 36 🤣 There’s just something so adult and parent-y about doing the nursery drop off that makes me feel like I’m pretending. Maybe it’s because I’m new to driving (I got my license last year) and newish to parenting (still a novice at 2 years in 😂) that makes this a surreal combo for me. Anyone else get imposter syndrome on a daily basis just doing regular adult things?! #mumlife #toddlerlife #toddlermum #mummydiaries
