I’ve known Jen for a number of years now and am always impressed how she balances travel, her tongue-in-cheek titled blog She Gets Around, her various freelance projects, as well as volunteering and managing events. Jen thrives on this varied lifestyle though and in this week’s From Where I Work explains how getting to work from wherever she pleases inspires the work she does.
My life as a blogger (and events, marketing, online content and training extraordinaire!) is rather varied and my working locations can vary from sitting in bed in my PJs to glamourous dining across London’s best hotspots. Generally though my main aim is to get up and out of the house each day. I am very much a people person and can work better surrounded by others than I can alone at home. Recently a huge proportion of my time has been spent working on a community street festival in my home town in Derbyshire, filling in (lots of) logistical forms to planning entertainment from marching bands to craft stalls. It was pretty intense as it got closer to the event with many, many phone calls and emails every day but the effort was all worth it after seeing a successful event take place on the street in Langley Mill. I’m glad to now get back to focusing on my blog and online marketing work and super excited to be starting a short term contract in an actual office this week, with amazing views of Buckingham Palace. When in London it would be rude not to accept a view of Buckingham Palace from the sky (19th floor) right?!
This means my blogging work will be relegated to the evening for a while but with many of my favourite spots being open late it doesn’t make too much difference and adds some variety to my day. One of my favourite all day or late night working spots is the RSA Gerard Bar which is super chilled out and always filled with interesting people I can occasionally eavesdrop on for new inspiration and motivation. Shh don’t tell! At weekends I will always spend a bit of time on social media, reading other blogs and planning a few posts for the week ahead and of course trying out new cafes and hot spots… all in the name of work of course! Occasionally I visit home, to the Lowthrop’s little bit of heaven at Hill Holt Wood to let my creativity flow in the countryside.
Don’t live the same year 75 times and call it a life.
I love that life is varied, from working on a beach to the top of a high rise with views across London. Every day, every week, every year is different and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
