My Travelshoot Experience – Capturing Memories Of Sydney

Yulia met me at the steps of Sydney Opera House and immediately made me feel excited about the photo-shoot ahead, as opposed to the fear I’d felt up until that point. As a blogger I’m used to being the one behind the camera but this afternoon I was going to be in front of it, interacting with the surroundings of Sydney’s iconic harbour and capturing images to celebrate my first year of living in and blogging about this city.

Yulia is a professional photographer, with a lot of experience in engagement and wedding photography, and she knows how to make people who are not used to being photographed feel at ease. She also knows Sydney Harbour well and had already scouted out the backdrops and angles she wanted to shoot in order to capture the best sides of both the city and her subject for the day.

Unusually for Sydney it had rained that morning but led to an incredibly dramatic sky for our shoot

She’d sweetly explain where she wanted me, guiding me into position with clear instruction (left leg bent, right straight) and paying attention to small details, like when my hair blew out of place or my coat got caught up on the railings. This, I realised, is the level of attention and detail you need to capture truly great photos – a wonky collection of selfies including outstretched arm, this is not.

Travelshoot is designed for travellers of all types. With a contact book of professional photographers around the world, they are on hand to capture special occasions like engagements and honeymoons as well as girls’ trips, family holidays and solo adventures. Thinking back to our engagement in Thailand I wish we’d contacted Travelshoot then to capture some images which reflected our happiness and the surroundings at that time – we’ve got a great blurry selfie taken on the beach shortly after but working with a professional local photographer the next day would have been awesome. Take a look at their gallery to see some of the extraordinary travel memories they’ve already created for customers.

My shoot in Sydney was just a 1-hour taster of what Travelshoot can do. The communication with the team throughout the booking process was fantastic and my collection of edited pictures were uploaded and ready to share via Dropbox within a number of days. Yulia managed to get some great shots of this wooden model (she assured me it’s easier to have photos taken when there are two of you and put me at ease when I started to fear I’d be hopeless for my wedding photos!) and they will form a lovely record of this time in Sydney for me. You’ll no doubt see a few of them popping up on my social media and blog posts in coming weeks but for now here are a few of my favourite.
